Sevenoak Design Journal

There was an interesting short piece in last Saturday’s Guardian about faith, religion and science. It’s essentially a rebuttal of Richard Dawkins’ position on God. But that’s not the point. Towards the end of the article there’s the story of the blind man who’s healed by Jesus: “I was blind, but now I see” — a pragmatic, experiential basis for faith, as the writer points out.

It struck me reading this that, despite their differences, what true religion and science have in common is that they are both empirical activities. Both involve investigation, learning, and realisation — gradual, or sudden. What sets the two apart is that while science is an outward looking empiricism, religion’s investigations and experiments are mainly internal.

Just a thought ;)
